The Hovercraft Club of Great Britain is the national membership organisation for racing and recreational hovercraft in the UK. They organise a national racing championship, contested over six to eight racing meetings around the country each year. Usually held over a weekend or bank holiday weekend events take place in a wide variety of locations on courses made up of both land and water sections.
The club wanted a short, punchy video to promote:
The film needed to feel exciting, modern and accessible — and help recruit new members and sponsors.
We planned and delivered a dynamic shoot with energy and pace. Our approach focused on three things:
1. Planning That Moved Quickly
We worked with the club to outline key scenes — from race starts to water sprays. The goal was to capture speed and sound in a way that would wow new viewers.
2. Capturing the Action
We filmed on location using gimbals and long lenses. This let us get close to the action while staying safe. We also recorded interviews with members to add human warmth and personality.
3. Sharp, Snappy Editing
We kept the final cut under two minutes. Fast cuts, bold typography, and driving music gave the film a modern, professional feel. We also created shorter clips for social media.
We produced a high-energy promotional film that captured the thrill of a typical race day, combining action-packed footage with vox pops from officials, members and spectators.
The club received two versions:
A 2:40 cut for formal use
A 1:40 cut for online and social platforms
Both films featured animated branding, bold titles, music, and a polished end frame. A timecoded draft was shared for feedback before we completed the final edit, grade, captions and HD file delivery.
The main film premiered at the Club’s Annual General Meeting, earning spontaneous applause and a standing ovation. Remarkably, it’s still used six years later — proudly welcoming visitors to the Hovercraft Club’s website.
